Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Inclusion: Essential for Care

We Welcome Your Whole Self

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not a finish line. They are central in the creation and maintenance of inclusive spaces. DASC strives to nurture a culture of belonging and empowerment within staff, client care, and with our community partners. We acknowledge the history and continued oppression for individuals and groups, both within society and medical spaces. Our dedication to evidence based practices, through a lens of cultural humility, is paramount to health care. It is our mission to celebrate feedback and implement purposeful changes to cultivate an equitable healing environment.

We acknowledge that a written statement is nothing without action. The following actions are our continued commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion:

  • We worked alongside an external diversity consultant to implement internal changes for over a year and a half to make changes to our recruitment and hiring process in order to prioritize diverse candidates and to reduce any implicit biases in hiring
  • We created a dedicated diversity, equity and inclusion task force dedicated to overseeing and maintaining ongoing action items to ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion remain a clinic priority
  • We have interwoven themes of cultural humility and contextual factors relevant to diverse populations throughout our training curriculum, and brought in speakers with lived experience to provide training to our staff on variety of topics in relation to diverse experiences in mental healthcare and leadership
  • We have interwoven themes of cultural humility and contextual factors relevant to diverse populations throughout our various consultation spaces, and encourage continued dialogue in including these contextual factors in client discussions and case conceptualizations
  • We have updated our client intake and assessment forms to be accessible and equitable to all aspects of our clients’ identities
  • We accept a variety of insurance plans and offer reduced fee services when applicable, in order to meet the needs of the community and to provide accessible and affordable mental health care to all

Our work in this area is ongoing and will never be “complete!” We embrace feedback from our community in regards to how our work is, or isn’t, creating an inclusive and equitable space to provide and receive mental healthcare, training, and consultation.
